The RPM team began with a rare drop-top - one of only eight made in 1969. After two years, the finished project debuted at the 12th PPG Nationals in Columbus this summer. When Frank first laid eyes on it, he was pleased to say the least! The convertible features one-inch extended rockers, a blended Camaro/Firebird front valence, a molded rear spoiler, stylized side vents and slick black paint with custom airbrushing by Skunkworx.
The custom-paneled engine bay houses a GM 350 crate motor with a smoothed and powder coated intake, MSD ignition and a Painless Performance computer. It’s backed by a Bowler 4L60E and a Currie 9”. The chassis features a reworked Fat Man front sub frame, a modified DSE Quadra-Link, RideTech shockwaves, and 6 and 4-piston Wilwood brakes.
The interior sports a fiberglass dash, AutoMeter gauges, bucket seats, a custom console and black leather upholstery by Trent’s Trick Upholstery.
Not only a looker, Frank’s ’69 Trans Am can run too! The car was flogged in Columbus at the 2009 Goodguys/Air Ride Technologies Street Machine of the Year Autocross where it clocked the 10th best lap time of 34.657 seconds!
The Goodguys/Detroit Speed Muscle Machine of the Year award is designed to honor a Muscle Car that’s been modified to perform at a high level including handling, stance, body & paint and engineering. Participation in a Goodguys Autocross is also mandatory for award finalists.
